If you've been using SonicBit for a while, you already know that My Drive is where everything lives — your downloaded torrents, your media files, your uploads, all of it. And if you're new here, My Drive is about to become your favorite feature. We've just rolled out a significant update to My Drive that touches nearly every part of the experience: faster transfers, smarter ways to organize your files, a cleaner interface, and a handful of quality-of-life improvements that you'll wonder how you ever lived without. Let's walk through everything that's new and how to get the most out of it.
What Is My Drive, Anyway?
Before we dive into the upgrades, a quick refresher for anyone who's new to SonicBit. My Drive is your personal file manager built right into your seedbox. Think of it like Google Drive or Dropbox, except it lives on your seedbox and plugs directly into everything else you do on SonicBit — torrents, remote downloads, Plex, Jellyfin, you name it.
You can get to it at any time by logging into your dashboard at https://my.sonicbit.net and clicking My Drive in the left sidebar. That's it. No extra apps to install, no complicated setup.
Faster Uploads and Downloads
The headline improvement in this update is speed. We've overhauled how files move in and out of My Drive, and the difference is noticeable right away.
Uploads now use a smarter chunked transfer system. This means large files — think multi-gigabyte MKV files or full folder archives — upload more reliably and faster than before. If your connection drops mid-upload, the transfer can pick up where it left off instead of starting over from scratch. You'll see a progress bar for each file so you always know where things stand.
Downloads have gotten a speed boost too. Single files download directly with improved delivery, and folder downloads (which come packaged as ZIP files) generate and compress faster on the server side before sending. There's still a heads-up warning when you try to download a folder over 1GB — just a friendly reminder that it might take a moment.
A Redesigned Interface That Just Makes Sense
The interface update is one of those things that's hard to fully appreciate until you use it. The layout is cleaner, the buttons are where you'd expect them to be, and the whole thing just feels more responsive.
Three Ways to Browse Your Files
One of the most practical additions is the expanded view options. You can now switch between three different layouts depending on what you're doing:
| View | What It's Good For |
|---|---|
| Grid View* | Browsing images and media thumbnails visually |
| **List View** | Seeing file sizes and details at a glance |
| *Group View | Finding files by type when your folder is a mix of everything |
You can toggle between these views from the toolbar — try Grid View for your movie collection and List View when you're hunting down a specific file by size.
Smarter Navigation with Breadcrumbs
Getting lost deep in a folder structure is annoying. The updated breadcrumb trail at the top of My Drive now includes a dropdown on each crumb, so you can jump sideways to sibling folders without having to backtrack all the way up and click back down. It's a small thing, but it saves a lot of clicking when you're organizing a big library.
Search That Actually Works
The search bar now filters your files as you type, in real time, within your current folder. Start typing a filename and the list narrows down instantly. No more scrolling through hundreds of files to find the one you need.
Smarter File Organization Tools
We've expanded the right-click context menu to give you more control over your files without extra steps. Here's a quick look at what you get when you right-click any file or folder:
Extract Archives Right on Your Seedbox
This one deserves a callout on its own. Instead of downloading a ZIP or RAR file to your computer just to extract it and re-upload the contents, you can now extract directly on the seedbox. Right-click the archive, hit Extract, and the files unpack in place. Supported formats include ZIP, RAR, 7Z, TAR, GZ, BZ2, and XZ. This saves a ton of bandwidth and time, especially for large archives.
File Previews Without Downloading
One of the most useful features in the updated My Drive is the expanded file preview system. You can now preview files directly in your browser:
This is especially handy when you want to double-check that a download completed correctly, or when you want to quickly skim a document without pulling it down to your computer.
Sharing Files Is Now Easier
Sharing a file with someone used to require a few extra steps. Now it's just two clicks. Right-click any file, select Share, and you get a public download link instantly. Anyone with the link can download the file — no SonicBit account required on their end.
Share links look like this: https://share.sonicbit.net/file/{id}
Keep in mind that these links are public, so share thoughtfully.
Storage Usage at a Glance
The sidebar storage indicator has been updated to give you a much clearer picture of where your storage stands. The bar changes color as you approach your limit:
You can also see a breakdown of storage by file type — videos, images, audio, documents, archives — so you know exactly what's taking up space and what to tackle first if you need to free some up.
How My Drive Fits Into Your Whole SonicBit Setup
My Drive doesn't work in isolation — it's the hub that everything else connects to. Here's how it ties into the rest of your seedbox:
A common workflow: download a torrent, have it land in My Drive, then use Remote Upload to sync it to Google Drive for long-term storage — all without touching your local computer.
